Key Enabling Technologies at the centre of Europe’s future prosperity

On 27 May 2021, EuroTech Universities Alliance organised an online event on Key Enabling Technologies (KETs). Europe prioritises research and innovation support for six such technologies, among them additive manufacturing. The event highlighted different aspects of this support and put an emphasis on equipping the current and future workforce with the right skills in these fields. Prof. Peter Mayr was part of it.

New research group leader

On 1 April 2020, Dr. techn. Evgeniya Kabliman has joined our team at the Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing. She will set up and lead a research group modelling the metallic materials and their behavior during the Additive Manufacturing using the methods of Computational Materials Science at different length scales. A special focus will be given to the microstructure formation and related phenomena.

New visiting researcher at the chair

In March our newest member joined our team. Dhirendra Mishra has a background in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mumbai and has lived and worked in Mumbai, India. Before joining the Technical University Munich, he worked at NMIMS University as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering where he initiated, developed and led a 3D Printing facility. He has collaborated with pharmacists and medical professionals in…

New practical course: Thermomechanical material behavior in additive manufacturing and welding

Starting in the upcoming summer semester, a new practical course will be offered at the Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing, which is aimed at students in the master's program. As part of the practical course, the thermomechanical behavior of different metallic materials will be investigated using a welding and forming simulator, the Gleeble 3800-GTC. These experiments and supplementary metallographic analyses are used to…

New Research Group Leader

On 1 September 2020, Nico Hempel joined our team at the Chair of Materials Engineering of Additive Manufacturing. He will set up and lead a research group dealing with the thermomechanical behavior of materials produced for and by Additive Manufacturing. Before coming to Munich, Mr. Hempel worked at TU Braunschweig, where he was involved in the experimental and numerical analysis of welding residual stresses as well as in testing of materials and…
