Research Areas and Projects

  • Modeling of time- and moisture-dependent wood behavior.
  • FaiMONat: Multi-fidelity Failure Modeling and Optimization for Natural Fiber Structures in Complex Environments.
  • EasyBeech: Entwicklung wirtschaftlicher Bauteile aus Buchenholz mit Fokus auf mittelständische und dezentrale Betriebe.

Research

The objective of this research is to develop an advanced numerical model that describes the stress evolutions in wood products, starting from the manufacturing process to the service life, by programming the behavior using a user defined material method in Abaqus. The model is going to cover the short- and long-term timber behavior, taking into account the anisotropy, elastoplasticity, viscoelasticity, mechano-sorptive creep, hygro-expansion, failure, and the time- and/or moisture-dependent feature of material parameters (Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus, yielding surface, ultimate strength, viscoelastic and mechano-sorptive compliance tensors, etc.).
